Renshinkai Southern Academy

Renshinkai is still a fighting force.
Once again Renshinkai Southern Academy (RSA and BIKO) hosted the
6th Lambeth Junior Karate Interclub Tournment (LJKIT) on Sunday 28th
March 2004
at the Brixton Recreation Centre. Over 160 competitors competed at
this event, which had positive feedback from all the coaches, spectators
and competitors. The standard of the both kata and kumite continues
to improve, especially from the lower grades.
The competing clubs came from Lambeth, Croydon, Essex, Kent, Northants,
Watford, Surrey, East London and North London. The aim of the event
is to continually develop the skills of the children from the grassroots
level and give them the opportunity to display their skills to a
large audience.
There was also a demonstration of IAIDO (Traditional Swordsmanship)
given by Dave Hart 5th Dan and his son Dave Jnr.
The Interclub Trophy went to RSA, gaining 171 points, second place
was Beckenham Renshinkai (113) and third place was Ilford TKO (81).
There were many exciting fights during the day, but the best of all
came in category 36, the final of men 18 years to under 21 years.
This was a match between Adrian Williams (Beckenham Renshinkai) and
Nathan Thompson-Smith (RSA). This match had the crowd on their feet
with excitement. Although Nathan fought extremely well for his first
competitive fight for 10 years, Adrian was too experience and strong
for him on the night and won the final 7 points to 3 points. Renshinkai
has shown that it is still the fighting force it was many years ago
and there are many up and coming stars of the future.
Lambeth Endowed Charities, Thrift Urban Housing, Sport 4 Lambeth,
Lambeth Council, Leisure Connection and FSA have all contributed
to the success of this successful Tournment. The next RSA Tournment
will be the Lambeth Karate Open Tournment, which will be held in
October at the Brixton Recreation Centre. Interested coaches, spectators
