2nd BRITISH OPEN
KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Sunday 19th September 2004

The British Institute of Karate Organisation (BIKO) hosted the second British Open Karate Championships held on Sunday 19th September 2004, at the Grundy Park Leisure Centre, Windmill Lane, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. The event was well represented, with well over 250 competitors taking part for prestigious trophies on the day. They travelled with their supporters from all over England, Wales and Scotland to make a great atmosphere at the Championships.

Once yet again the event had four matted areas, with BIKO’s Chief Referee, Dale Gamble ensuring the smooth running of the event during the day. The BIKO organisers have now fine tuned their competitions over the years, and many people attending comment on the first class organisation of these events. The standard of competitors were high and the coaches and spectators must be congratulated once more for their efforts in attending the event and making it a success.

The event started at 9.45am with the kata sections. A demonstration was given at the end of the kata sections of traditional Iai-do which was performed by Gerry Coulter 3rd Dan Iai-do and Malcolm Burton 1st Iai-do. BIKO will continue to provide spectacular demonstrations at their competitions.

When this was completed we then proceeded to the kumite sections. The standard of the fighting continued in spectacular form. Many of the spectators commented on how they enjoyed the day.

Yet again the organisers would again like to thank all the referees, table officials, medics, coaches, competitors and spectators for their continued support for the event and hope to see them again at the next BIKO competition.
