The British Institute of Karate Organisation (BIKO) hosted the British Open Karate Championships Sunday 7th October 2007, at the Grundy Park Leisure Centre, Herts. The event was a total success with over 500 competitors competing for prestigious trophies. They travelled with their supporters from all over England Wales and Scotland to make a great atmosphere at the Championships. The event had four matted areas, which the Chief Referee, Dale Gamble ensured that they were in constant use all day. All the competitors and coaches must be congratulated for their continued efforts in attending this event especially as there was a postal strike which hampered the entries. The event started at 10.00am with the kata sections, then on to the kumite sections. Following on from the success in 2005, where we incorporated a knock down event, this event was held again in 2007 with two weight categories. We would like to develop the semi-contact / knock-down category at furutre tournaments. We would also like to invite more Kyokushinkai and Tae Kwon Do styles to participate. Ganesh Chandra Saha and Pruna, two BIKO India members, travelled from west Bengal to referee at the competition. Ganesh was awarded his 5th Dan by BIKO Chairman Ken Henville and chief instructor Garth Waldropt. This upgrade was made for his services to karate and hard work both in India and on the International scene. Warren De Reuck won the heavy weight section of the knock-down category again. Below are the comments of his instructor Patrick Rault (6th dan Renshi). "Today is a very good day for BUNBUKAN dojo . Warren De Reuck who trains at the Bunbukan dojo , my academy in London, has won for the third time the British open full contact of the British federation BIKO . It is a great success for our association, and as you surely know, the first rule of success, and one that supersedes all others,is to have energy. It's important to know how to concentrate it, focus your energy on important matters instead of frittering it away on meaningless things. Nothing will add more power to your life then concentrating all your energies on a limited set of goals. you must focus the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve if
The organisers would like to thank all the referees, table officials, medics, coaches, competitors and spectators for their support for the event and hope to see them again at the next BIKO competition.
