The First Fellow of the Institure Awarded to
MR GRAHAM MCCANN - 4th DAN from Scotland


Biko ended 2005 calendar with its first Christmas Dinner / Dance and Presentations. This was held At The
Quality Hotel, Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The event, although a small affair, brought together 75 people, the Executive and their partners, plus many senior grades and students from the grassroots.

In line with other professional institutions, BIKO are now awarding fellowships. These are awarded to p
eople that have made a notible contribution to karate over many years. In particular they are awarded to people that have supported BIKO events, and work hard for karate generally.

MR Graham McCann flew down from Scotland to recieve his award of Fellow of the Institute, which entitles him to all the privilidges and facilities of the organisation for life membership. This prestigious rank has been awarded for the first time, and to a person that was not previously a BIKO member.


The Chair of Biko, Ken Henville and Chief Instructor, Garth Waldropt made presentations to, The Student of the year, which went to
Melanie Smith from Kent and Instructor of the Year, Peter Ashby for his work throughout the year.

There
was a Special Award and it went to Mick Bazylewycz for representing BIKO in KATA competition at major karate events.

There were
senior Dan Grade promotions awarded to Alan Beale - 5th Dan, Colin Hanson - 5th Dan, Richard Baker - 4th Dan and Sam Winder - 4th Dan.

After finish
ing a good meal and after all the awards were over everyone had the opportunity to dance the night away. Plans are now afoot to make next year’s dinner and dance an even more memorable occasion.
